Flu Vaccination Programme 2024/25

This year most eligible adults will be able to get the flu vaccine from the 3rd of October. This may may be later than you’ve had the vaccine before, but it means you will have the best protection when flu is most widespread.

Some people may have their vaccination from September 2024 including:

  • Pregnant women
  • All children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2024
  • All children in clinical risk groups aged from 6 months to less than 18 years
  • Patients who are due to have treatment that will weaken their immune system (such as chemotherapy) – the vaccine may be given before treatment starts because it works better if given when their immune system is stronger

Who is eligible to receive a free flu vaccine from the 3rd of October?

Patients in the following groups, will be offered a free flu vaccine in the GP surgery:

  • Patients aged 65 years and over
  • Adults with long term conditions such as:
  • a heart problem
  • diabetes
  • a learning disability
  • a kidney disease
  • a liver disease
  • COPD
  • Asthma (only if requires continuous or repeated use of inhaled or systematic steroids or previous exacerbations requiring hospital admission)
  • patients with BMI of 40 and above
  • lowered immunity due to disease or treatment
  • Carers
  • Close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
  • Frontline workers in a social care setting without an employer led occupational health scheme including those working for a registered residential care or nursing home, registered domiciliary care providers, voluntary managed hospice providers and those that are employed by those who receive direct payments (personal budgets) or Personal Health budgets, such as Personal Assistants.

School-aged children and young people will be offered the flu vaccine at school.

Flu clinics at Bridgewater Surgeries:

We are going to run Saturday flu clinics in October at both Bridgewater House and Meriden. We will also have weekday clinics at all sites including North Approach.

How to book an appointment:

  • You can use the NHS App (please ensure that you are eligible before booking)
  • We send out text messages with a self-book link (these are valid for 7 days)
  • You can call our reception team
  • Ask a clinician or receptionist to book you an appointment when you are at the surgery
