We are receiving a high number of enquiries about Wegovy (semaglutide).
New NHS guidance
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has approved semaglutide for some patients with heart and circulatory disease who are overweight (for example, those who have had a heart attack or stroke).
Studies show it can reduce the risk of serious heart problems by around 20% when used alongside a healthy lifestyle.
Local arrangements
We are awaiting further guidance from NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board on how this treatment will be provided locally. It is expected to be rolled out this summer.
At present:
- It is not prescribed by GP practices
- It is expected to be provided via specialist NHS services only
Private prescriptions
If you are obtaining Wegovy privately:
- We cannot prescribe this on the NHS
- We do not provide shared care with private providers
Thank you for your understanding.
